they were squash courts. almost all of them are now used for art space.

There was a real tennis court built there in 1908. It was later converted to squash courts.

The real tennis court at Harvard was called the Randolph court. It was demolished in the 20's and replaced by 8 squash courts. Jim Zug has all the details in his book A History of Squash.
